Moldova

Moldova’s financial sector is very small by any measure, so the amount of credit and other sources of investment to support private sector growth are limited.  Moldova has 15 commercial banks, which account for the lion’s share of financial assets.  Trends in the banking sector have been moving in the right direction over the last five to six years, and Moldova was beginning to catch up with its neighbors when the crisis hit.
