International Insurance Program
Toronto Centre programs focus on case studies involving major insurance crises and events. Typically the program leader who presents the case would have played a key role in the actual event, in particular shaping the supervisory or regulatory response. The program leader provides the economic and political background to the case and leads participants through an analysis of the issue. Throughout the program, attention is focused on the complex array of relationships that must be considered in planning and implementing interventions.
Issues include:
Institutional issues involving the effectiveness of the regulatory entity itself (human resource development and institutional practices)
Political issues involving mandate, resources, legal protection, and legislation
Coordination issues involving relationships with other regulatory bodies, financial services firms and associations, and ancillary organizations
Public interest issues in dealing with media, owners, managers, and policyholders
