Despite (excessively) high growth in bank lending prior to the crisis, the amount of bank credit, deposits, and capital as a percentage of the overall economy lags far behind even the underdeveloped countries of Eurasia.  Capital markets and insurance are in the early stages of development, similar to peer countries.
