Twenty-one commercial banks account for 92 percent of financial assets (June 2011), but the sector is still small relative to GDP. However, Armenia's banking system is not overly concentrated, which may bode well for future competition. The top four banks hold between 35 and 40 percent of assets, liabilities, and capital in the banking system.
